Gov Hochul Reverses All-Electric Building Law, Telling New Yorkers: "PAY MORE!"

Governor caps off week of disastrous climate decisions by siding with fossil fuel interests to drive up energy bills even higher for everyday people

ALBANY, NY (11/12/2025) (readMedia)-- On Thursday, advocates and building experts will hold a Zoom press conference with state and local lawmakers from across New York slamming Governor Kathy Hochul for indefinitely delaying the All-Electric Buildings Law (AEBL). Despite signing the nation-leading climate law in 2023, Governor Hochul is now caving to fossil fuel companies, to prevent the January 1st, 2026 start date - potentially delaying the law for years and driving up New Yorkers' energy bills even further.

Despite promising to stand up to Trump and prioritize affordability, Governor Hochul is shamelessly following his lead by abandoning our climate and repeatedly putting the interests of fossil fuel corporations over the needs of her constituents. The Governor's decision to delay the AEBL comes just five days after she instructed her own state agencies to approve a costly, fracked gas pipeline at Trump's urging and sided with the crypto industry by reversing a ban on the Greenidge crypto-mining plant. Now, New Yorkers are calling out the Governor for abandoning our climate and forcing families to pay more on their energy bills.
