AUGUSTA, ME (03/24/2015)(readMedia)-- Gov. Paul R. LePage has chosen a Brigadier General from the Maine Air National Guard as Maine's interim adjutant general, the state's top military officer who also serves as commissioner of the state Department of Defense, Veterans and Emergency Management.

LePage on Tuesday said he's appointing Brig. Gen. Gerard F. Bolduc as the interim adjutant general. Bolduc is the Commander of the Maine Air National Guard and the Assistant Adjutant General, Air for the Joint Force Headquarters, Maine Air National Guard, Camp Keyes, Augusta, Maine. Bolduc serves as the principal advisor to the Governor on a broad range of matters concerning the United States Air Force and the Air National Guard.

Bolduc will replace Brig. Gen. James Campbell, who served as the Maine National Guard's top officer since July 2012. "I am honored to serve as the interim adjutant general," said Bolduc. "I want the citizens of Maine to know that the Maine National Guard, despite any changes, will remain trained and fully prepared to respond to any of the state and nation's needs."

The adjutant general serves at the discretion of the governor and Bolduc will remain in the position until LePage identifies a replacement.

General Bolduc joined the Air Force and was commissioned in March 1982 through the Academy of Military Science, Knoxville, Tennessee. After completion of navigator training, he was assigned to Bangor Air National Guard Base, Maine. He served in numerous operations and maintenance assignments and held squadron group and vice wing command positions.
