AUGUSTA, ME (04/03/2015)(readMedia)-- Governor Paul R. LePage swore in Adria O. Horn as director of Maine's Bureau of Veterans Services, Friday, at the state capitol.

Horn replaces Peter W. Ogden, who served as the director for 11 years.

"Maine owes a great deal of gratitude to its veterans," LePage said. "Having the right person to lead this organization and advocate for our veteran population is essential. I have complete confidence that Adria will continue the selfless service that Peter has so faithfully discharged over his career."

Horn, a West Point graduate, currently serves as a US Army Reservist with US Pacific Command. She has deployed in support of the Global War on Terror five times in her 14-year career. She will be leaving the office of Senator Susan Collins where she served as a state staff member.

"It is a privilege to become Maine's next primary public advocate for veterans," Horn said. "I am truly humbled to have been selected for this distinct opportunity. Peter Ogden selflessly served our veterans through unprecedented times and it is an honor to be taking over from him."

Ogden served both the active Army and Maine Army National Guard over a span of 28 years. He retired as a lieutenant colonel from the Maine Army National Guard and served two combat tours in Vietnam. He was appointed as the Director of the Maine Bureau of Veterans' Services in 2004.

"It has been an honor and very humbling to serve Maine's veterans and their families for the last 11 years," said Ogden. "I have had the privilege to shake the hand of thousands of Maine's veterans, to say 'thank you' to them for their service and sacrifice on behalf of a grateful state. "
