ALBANY, NY (12/30/2010)(readMedia)-- Governor David A. Paterson announced today that he has appointed his counsel, Peter J. Kiernan, as the Chair of the New York State Law Revision Commission. The New York State Law Revision Commission is tasked by Section 72 of the Legislative Law with examining and considering proposed changes in the law, recommending such changes in the law as it deems necessary, and reporting its proceedings annually to the Legislature with proposed bills to carry out any of its recommendations.
"Peter Kiernan has been an outstanding Counsel and a trusted member of my Administration," Governor Paterson said. "I am very pleased to appoint him as Chair of the Law Revision Commission."
Peter J. Kiernan has been Governor Paterson's Counsel since November 2008. Mr. Kiernan is a graduate of John Carroll University, the Cornell University Law School, the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University (MPA), and the Johnson School of Management at Cornell University (MBA). His prior government service includes being Counsel to the Minority, New York State Senate and Counsel to the Deputy Mayor for Finance in New York City. He has had a distinguished career as a corporate and municipal finance lawyer in New York City.
Mr. Kiernan succeeds Robert Pitler, Esq., who Governor Paterson thanked for his very effective service. The position is unsalaried and does not require Senate confirmation.
