Governor Paterson Directs Flags to Be Flown at Half-Staff

ALBANY, NY (11/16/2010)(readMedia)-- Governor David A. Paterson has directed that flags on State government buildings be flown at half-staff on Friday, November 19, in honor of a Chittenango soldier who was killed in action in Logar Province, Afghanistan on November 10.

Army Sergeant Edward H. Bolen died of wounds sustained when his unit was attacked by direct fire and an improvised explosive device while on dismounted patrol. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 30th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team of the 10th Mountain Division. The 4th Brigade Combat Team is based at Fort Polk, Louisiana while the 10th Mountain Division is headquartered at Fort Drum.

"On behalf of all New Yorkers I want to express our sympathy to the friends, family and fellow soldiers of Sergeant Bolen," Governor Paterson said. "This native New Yorker served our nation with pride and honor. We regret his loss, but we will remember and honor his service to our nation."

Governor Paterson has directed the flags on all State buildings to be lowered to half-staff in honor and tribute to our State's service members who are killed in action or die in a combat zone.
