Governor's Rational Tuition Plan Welcomed by SUNY Cortland

CORTLAND, NY (06/09/2011)(readMedia)-- SUNY Cortland President Erik Bitterbaum today issued a statement in support of Gov. Andrew Cuomo's inclusion of "Rational Tuition Plan" in the NYSUNY 20/20 Challenge Grant bill submitted to the New York State Legislature today. The plan would allow comprehensive colleges like SUNY Cortland to raise tuition up to 5 percent a year for the next five years. That additional revenue will allow the college to meet the financial challenges facing all SUNY schools while maintaining the high quality of a SUNY Cortland education.

President Bitterbaum said, "I salute and commend our governor for including a Rational Tuition Policy in the bill he submitted to the legislature today. This encourages an effective partnership between New York families and our state universities and colleges, for it allows our students to have a predictable and fair understanding of what it will cost to receive a college education. Moreover, it will bolster access and permit students to complete their degrees in four years. I believe that this new policy will help thousands of New Yorkers achieve their dreams of attending the college of their choice."
