Great Iowa Treasure Hunt eBay Auction Launches Tuesday December 10

DES MOINES, IA (12/09/2013)(readMedia)-- State Treasurer Michael L. Fitzgerald announced today that the Great Iowa Treasure Hunt eBay auction will begin on Tuesday December 10 to sell contents from abandoned safe deposit boxes. "If you are searching for the perfect holiday present, look no further," Fitzgerald stated. "This auction contains over 40 different items for sale. Items include rings, bracelets, silver dollars and numerous other treasures." The auction website link is: http://myworld.ebay.com/ia.unclaimed.property.

EBay will provide Iowans and others across the country the convenience of bidding from anywhere. "In years past, auctions were held in Des Moines," said Fitzgerald. "Using the Internet as our auction site increases the number of people participating and allows us to expand the time that each item is available for sale." The auction begins Tuesday December 10 and will end Tuesday December 17.

Every year, millions of dollars in abandoned property is turned over to the state treasurer's office. Unclaimed property refers to money and other assets held by financial institutions, businesses and other organizations that have lost contact with the owner for a specific period of time.
