Green Watchdog's Response to Passage of the New York Works Agenda
ALBANY, NY (12/08/2011)(readMedia)-- In response to the passage of the New York Works Agenda, Environmental Advocates of New York released the following statement:
"Environmental Advocates of New York recognizes Governor Cuomo and leaders in the State Legislature for taking steps to grow our economy by investing in our decaying environmental infrastructure, including parks, dams, flood control projects, water systems, and energy efficiency improvements for homes and businesses in the Empire State.
While we appreciate the Governor and state leaders' efforts to limit the impact of reducing the Payroll Mobility Tax on the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), it's critically important to fill this gap. A healthy public transit system reduces air pollution by taking cars off the road and provides a relatively low-cost way for millions of New Yorkers to get to their jobs. Any cuts to this vital service will result in increased pollution and traffic congestion--bad news for our air quality and New Yorkers with asthma."
Environmental Advocates of New York's mission is to protect our air, land, water and wildlife and the health of all New Yorkers. Based in Albany, we monitor state government, evaluate proposed laws, and champion policies and practices that will ensure the responsible stewardship of our shared environment. We work to support and strengthen the efforts of New York's environmental community and to make our state a national leader. Visit www.eany.org to learn more.
