Greenidge Generation Loses ANOTHER Appeal, Electeds & Advocates Celebrate DEC Decision

Climate-killing crypto-miner Greenidge Generation became a national story and test case for how states should handle the exploitative and extractive crypto-mining industry

DRESDEN, NY (05/10/2024) (readMedia)-- Dresden, NY - Almost two years after the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation denied Greenidge Generation's air permit (a decision which the energy guzzling crypto-miner appealed twice), the DEC found – for the third time, on appeal – that Greenidge Generation's operations are inconsistent with the greenhouse gas emissions limits of New York's Climate Law (the CLCPA). The ruling also confirmed DEC's authority to deny permits for being inconsistent with the CLCPA, and officially ended Greenidge's appeals case within the DEC.

In a virtual press conference, elected officials and advocates will explain this victory. They will also discuss the state of crypto-mining in New York, and how this decision sets a precedent for the DEC to deny the air permit renewal for Fortistar/Digihost, another fracked gas-burning crypto-mining operation in North Tonawanda.
