HAMDEN, CT (02/18/2010)(readMedia)-- Gregory Zagaja, of Chicago, received the Distinguished Alumni Award at Quinnipiac University's Winter Homecoming celebration on Feb. 6.
The Distinguished Alumni Award is presented to alumni that have displayed outstanding leadership and achievement in their careers, have continually served their local and global community, have acted as a conduit for alumni who are looking to reconnect with the university and have displayed philanthropic loyalty and bonds with Quinnipiac.
Zagaja is considered one of the foremost experts in urological oncology and the management of prostate and bladder cancer and is a national leader in the development of robotic-assisted laparoscopic surgery to treat prostate cancer.
Zagaja joined the University of Chicago's faculty in 1998, and is an associate professor of surgery/urology and director of the prostate cancer program.
He earned his bachelor's degree in medical technology at Quinnipiac in 1981. He is married to fellow Quinnipiac alumna Virginia Grana Zagaja.
