Groups Applaud Governor Cuomo for Recognizing Power of Great Lakes Wind
ALBANY, NY (03/30/2012)(readMedia)-- In response to the announcement that New York, along with four other Great Lake states, formed the Great Lakes Wind Energy Consortium to spur offshore wind development, environmental and clean energy advocates released the following statement:
"Alliance for Clean Energy New York, Environmental Advocates of New York, National Wildlife Federation, Natural Resources Defense Council, New York League of Conservation Voters, Pace Energy and Climate Center, and Renewable Energy Long Island applaud Governor Andrew Cuomo for recognizing that New York is wise to deploy offshore wind on both coasts to meet our energy needs.
Offshore wind energy is an abundant domestic resource that will help further diversify our energy supply and help the state reduce air pollution. New York's Great Lakes and Atlantic coasts have the potential to generate 150,000 megawatts from offshore wind, enough to power all the homes in New York. Today's announcement is an important step toward meeting our state's clean energy and climate pollution reduction goals while creating thousands of jobs for New Yorkers."
