Grove City College alumna Jennifer Ferris '11 of Essex Junction, Vt., earns a Fulbright Full Grant

GROVE CITY, PA (05/08/2012)(readMedia)-- Grove City College alumna Jennifer Ferris '11 of Essex Junction, Vt., has earned a Fulbright Full Grant to the University of Ottawa for the 2012-13 academic year. The Full Grant is the most prestigious student Fulbright fellowship awarded.

Ferris, a business economics and French double major while at the College, will be researching her project, "Examining the Development of Entrepreneurship in Ontario," an examination on how globalization has affected the Canadian economy and individual businesses, in an effort to improve Canada's trade relations.

Ferris plans to research the development of entrepreneurship in Ontario over the past 30 years in order to identify which entrepreneurial ventures are worthwhile in the current economic climate. She also intends to study how best to encourage entrepreneurial development in youth and linguistic minorities.

While in Ontario, Ferris will be working with Dr. David Doloreux, a full professor and the research chair in Francophone studies on entrepreneurship, innovation and regional development for the Telfer School of Management at the University of Ottawa.

With the goal of receiving a Ph.D. in international business, Ferris will be taking courses at the University of Ottawa in Canadian politics, globalization and governance, immigration and diversity and public policy. Ferris also plans on volunteering at the Youth Entrepreneurship Partnerships Program through the Ontario Ministry of Economic Development and Trade, as well as a local women's shelter.

While at Grove City College, Ferris was heavily involved in service organizations including Steel City ministries, serving at a women's shelter in Pittsburgh, the Homeless Aid Organization, assisting in distributing meals to the homeless in Pittsburgh and Intervarsity Christian Fellowship. Additionally, she was awarded membership to Alpha Mu Gamma, a national foreign language honorary.

The Fulbright U.S. student program awards fellowships to graduating seniors and graduate students to financially support them to study abroad for one academic year. Founded in 1946, the purpose of the Fulbright program is to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries. Each year there are approximately 1,700 Fulbright U.S. student awards granted.

Ferris's grant is the College's seventh Fulbright award since 2000. Previous winners include Luke Juday '10, who studied intercollegiate debate and public policy in Botswana, and David Frick '09, who traveled to China to study small business accounting practices.
