NORFOLK, VA (11/07/2008)(readMedia)-- Physicians for Peace supporters Dr. John Kenerson and Dr. Lisbet Hanson, of Hampton Roads, are sponsoring a forum on the health crisis facing women in the central plateau region of Haiti. The forum, scheduled for Friday, November 14, from 5:00-6 :30 pm, will be held at the Church of the Holy Family, 1279 North Great Neck Road, Virginia Beach. The event is free and open to the public.
Two prominent Haitian physicians, Dr. Renel Saintard and Dr. Jonas Eddy, will speak about health conditions in Haiti, one of the poorest nations in the Western Hemisphere. For example, a woman in Haiti is 42 times more likely to die in childbirth as in the United States.
Both Dr. Eddy and Dr. Saintard are Obstetrician/Gynocologists working with Partners In Health's Women's Health project,in Cange, Haiti. Partners in Health, the acclaimed non-profit healthcare organization founded by humanitarian Paul Farmer, is know world-wide for its work in Haiti.
