Hales Corners native Meghann Rosenwald elected to Active Minds executive board at Marquette University
MILWAUKEE, WI (02/20/2012)(readMedia)-- Meghann Rosenwald of Hales Corners, Wis., has been elected president of the Active Minds 2012-'13 executive board at Marquette University. Rosenwald is a sophomore in the College of Health Sciences majoring in clinical laboratory sciences.
Active Minds is a student organization that promotes awareness of mental health disorders and seeks to remove the stigma that surrounds mental illness on college campuses. Active Minds provides information and resources regarding mental health to the student body through various campus events and monthly club meetings. The Marquette chapter was founded in 2008 and is one of 329 Active Minds chapters nationwide.
"In a given year, one in four adults suffer from a mental health disorder. Whether it be anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, depression, bi-polar or an eating disorder, Active Minds wants those students to know they are not alone," said director of publicity Nicholas Seglund, a sophomore in the College of Nursing.
"The incoming executive board is a talented group of individuals who are enthusiastic about changing the conversation about mental health. Active Minds provides students with information to help facilitate discussions about mental health and decrease the stigma surrounding it," said Rosenwald.
Active Minds at Marquette hosts and participates in a number of different awareness events throughout the school year. Some of the group's bigger events include Mental Health Awareness Week, National Stress Out Day, Depression/Suicide Walk & Vigil and National Day Without Stigma.
