Halloween Reading and Chemistry Magic Show, Oct. 30

CANTON, NY (10/22/2014)(readMedia)-- The SUNY Canton Early Childhood program will be holding a Halloween Read Aloud from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30, in the Richard W. Miller Campus Center's Kingston Theater.

The program partners with the national Read Aloud 15 Minutes initiative, which promotes reading to children from birth. Early Childhood Program Director Maureen. P. Maiocco, Ed.D., will be reading the interactive book "The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything" by Linda Williams.

Maiocco is an animated and gifted storyteller with the ability to excite and engage young children. She and her students host many early childhood events on campus and within the community, including the President's Annual Holiday party for children and families.

Following the reading, SUNY Canton President Zvi Szafran will be presenting his own chemistry magic show for the young spectators. Both the reading and the magic show are free and open to the public, but are especially designed for children ages 4 to 10.

The Early Childhood program partnered with Read Aloud 15 Minutes last year and holds events and trainings to integrate its themes in-class and in continuing education environments.
