AUGUSTA, ME (05/06/2021) (readMedia)-- The Adjutant General for Maine, Maj. Gen. Douglas A. Farnham, is pleased to announce to promotion of Dr. Daniel Gott, of Hampden, to colonel while assuming the role as the Maine National Guard State Air Surgeon. Gott, 50, was promoted Sunday during a ceremony held at the Army National Guard's 240th Regional Training Institute in Bangor.

In his new position, Gott, a doctor of osteopathic medicine, is responsible for taking a strategic perspective in planning for the capabilities and characteristics of the Maine Air National Guard's medical assets. This includes identifying and recommending what may be required to support domestic or contingency operations.

"I have had the pleasure of working with Dan for the past decade in Bangor and his promotion is well deserved," said Brig. Gen. Frank Roy, Maine Air National Guard Chief of Staff. "His dedication and commitment to ensuring our overall medical readiness has helped keep our Airmen prepared for the missions we have been tasked with."

Gott's son, Airman 1st Class Mitchell Gott, and parents, Robert and Theresa Gott, were guests of honor during the promotion ceremony. Roy participated in the ceremony and, along with Mitchell, a member of the Maine Air National Guard's 101st Air Refueling Wing, pinned on the colonel's new rank.

During his comments he thanked his wife, Marilyn Gott, for all her encouragement and sacrifices over the years in support of his military career and deployments. He also thanked fellow Airmen who provided mentorship and support throughout his career. He emphasized the importance of close ties he has formed through years of training that have made his military experience a fulfilling one. He also stated he is very honored to be able to serve alongside his son, Mitchell.

"I feel very fortunate to work daily with a team of such high caliber as the MAINEiacs, a unit that will always be considered as my extended family," said Gott, as he departs after serving ten years at the Wing in Bangor for his new position in Augusta at the Maine National Guard Headquarters.

Gott received a direct commission in 2011 as a flight surgeon. He graduated from the University of Maine at Orono with degrees in Microbiology and Biochemistry in 1995 and received his doctorate in Osteopathic Medicine from the University of New England in 1999. Gott practiced family medicine for 21 years in the Bangor area prior to accepting a full-time position at the Wing in aerospace medicine in 2020. While at the Wing, Gott has served as flight surgeon and senior flight surgeon. He continues to maintain a civilian aerospace medicine practice in Bangor.
