PLEASANTVILLE, NY (05/09/2012)(readMedia)-- The Northeast-10 Conference Baseball Coaches selected four players to the All-Conference as well as naming Head Coach Hank Manning as the Coach of the Year. Starting pitchers Michael Tamburino (Baldwin, NY/Holy Trinity) and Neil Pezzullo (Harwich, MA/Pelham Memorial) were named to the NE-10 Second Team, while outfielder Patrick Chaputian (Sea Cliff, NY/North Shore) and designated hitter James Pjura (Shelton, CT/Shelton) were selected to the Third Team.
Tamburino posted a record of 7-2 on the season with a 1.48 ERA in 11 starts on the season. He struck out 74 batters in 85 innings pitched, while tossing four complete games. Tamburino ranks fifth in the NE-10 in ERA, eighth in strikeouts and is tied for fifth in wins and complete games on the season. He is sixth in the nation in hits per nine innings as well as 14th in ERA.
Pezzullo went 6-2 this season with a 1.90 ERA in eight starts this season. He struck out 63 batters in 71 innings pitched, while tossing three complete games. In the NE-10, he ranks tenth in strikeouts and is tied for eighth in wins and tied for tenth in ERA. Pezzullo ranks 15th in ERA and 15th in hits per nine innings.
Chaputian led the team with 60 hits on the season and finished second on the team with a .296 batting average. He was second on in base percentage with a .370 mark and fourth on the team with a .349 slugging percentage. He was tied for first on the team with two triples, second with eight stolen bases, fourth with 22 RBI's and fifth with 22 runs scored.
Pjura led the team with a .317 batting average, while also leading the team with a .448 slugging percentage and a .401 on base percentage. He also tied for the team lead in doubles with 10, while leading the team with 27 RBI's and 65 total bases. He tied for second on the team with 46 hits, while ranking third in runs with 24. He was also third in homeruns with three. He was an NE-10 All-Rookie Team selected last year.
Head Coach Hank Manning was selected NE-10 Coach of the Year for the first time in his career. He guided the Setters to a 29-19 overall record and won the NE-10 Southwest Division Title with a 17-4 division record. Pace was picked seventh in the preseason poll in the Southwest Division and went on to capture the top seed in the NE-10 Championship. The Setters improve on last year's win total by 13 wins this season.
