Health, Environmental & Energy Groups Applaud NY AG for Defending State's Role in Regional Climate Effort
ALBANY, NY (09/08/2011)(readMedia)-- In response to New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman's motion to dismiss a meritless lawsuit brought against the state for its participation in the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, a multi-state effort to reduce climate-altering pollution from power plants, several public health, environmental and energy groups released the following statement:
"We applaud Attorney General Schneiderman for fighting the out-of-state oil interests trying to derail the Empire State's transition to a clean energy economy by means of a baseless lawsuit designed to end New York's participation in the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative. RGGI is the nation's only enforceable program reducing climate-altering pollution from power plants, and it works. New York is netting big documented benefits from RGGI. It's not just reducing the pollution that's changing our climate, it's helping consumers save money on their utility bills and it's creating new jobs."
The following organizations released the statement: the Adirondack Council, Alliance for Clean Energy - New York, American Lung Association in New York, Environment Northeast, Environmental Advocates of New York, Hudson River Sloop Clearwater, Natural Resources Defense Council, New York Interfaith Power & Light, New York League of Conservation Voters, New York Public Interest Research Group, Pace Energy and Climate Center, Renewable Energy Long Island, The Solar Alliance, and Vote Solar.
