The test begins with a baseline assessment that consists of a number of exercises in one of four specialties: Medical Surgical (Tele Travel Nurses would use the Med/Surg portion), Critical Care, NICU, and OB. Although there are some exercises that can be administered on paper, the majority of the questions are presented as video vignettes. The vignettes are followed by corresponding questions that ask nurses to document responses in a manner that clearly illustrates prioritization of events, determine what the main problem or anticipated medical diagnosis is, identify additional resources needed, what nursing interventions apply, and lastly, to explain why decisions were made and actions were taken.
