SPRINGFIELD, MA (06/21/2011)(readMedia)-- Heather M. Mortell of Webster received the Female Scholar Athlete of the Year Award during Baccalaureate ceremonies at Western New England College. The award is given to a graduating senior who exemplifies outstanding citizenship and character, excellence in athletics, and excellence in academics.
A striker and captain of the women's soccer team, Mortell graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering. She is a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta, Mortar Board, and Chi Alpha Sigma honor societies. She is a three time All TCCC Academic Team honoree and has been named in ESPN the magazine's All Academic Third team. In addition, Mortell has was named Regional All-American Honorable Mention by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America in 2010.
