ALBANY, NY (12/17/2009)(readMedia)-- The American Lung Association in New York will be holding its Freedom From Smoking (FFS) Train the Trainer program at its offices in New York City on January 13th and 14th 2010. The two-day training will be held from 8am to 5pm both days. The cost for the training, including all materials, is $250. Those interested in registering for the upcoming training can do so online at alany.org .

"This training provides an excellent opportunity for individuals who are interested in making a real difference in people's lives," said Scott T. Santarella, President and CEO of the American Lung Association in New York. "More than 25,000 New Yorkers die as a result of smoking each year, and many more suffer from smoking-caused illnesses including lung disease. Trainers who deliver this program will not only be making a difference in individuals' lives, but helping to improve overall public health. The more trainers we have, the more widely this outstanding program can be offered."

Program graduates will be qualified to hold FFS clinics as well as train other FFS facilitators for businesses and community groups looking to provide tobacco cessation services.

The Freedom From Smoking program was researched and developed by the American Lung Association. Considered "America's gold standard in smoking cessation programs," it is a seven-week, eight session adult smoking cessation program that uses positive behavior change in a support group based setting.

Training program participants will receive two full days of training by an American Lung Association Master Trainer, educational materials, and the Freedom From Smoking Guide for Clinic Facilitators.
