Genesee Community College Lima Campus Center Party on the Patio

BATAVIA, NY (08/22/2013)(readMedia)-- Hundreds of people turned out to sing, dance, and socialize at the Genesee Community College Lima Campus Center Party on the Patio on Thursday, August 15, 2013. The free community event featured Lima native Jonathan Stills, of American Idol Fame. It also featured artwork from 85 first through sixth graders who participated in the weeklong Kids College at the Lima Campus Center from August 12-16, 2013.

"We had so much fun!" said Lima Campus Center Associate Dean Patty Chaya. "Kids College was a terrific success. We loved showing off the students' artistic creations at Party on the Patio. And Jon Stills is an outstanding entertainer."

Stills had the crowd singing and line dancing. The Lima native has twice competed on the hit TV show American Idol. On season 9, he made it to the top 140 in Hollywood. During season 10 he made it to the third round of Hollywood week and finished in the top 100 of the original 125,000 contestants. Stills continues to pursue his musical dreams while co-owning a DJ business. He specializes in singing rhythm & blues, pop music, some classic rock and love songs. His performance drew a crowd from around the region, including Avon, Henrietta and Honeoye Falls. "It was a great crowd, with people from around Livingston County and beyond," said Lima Campus associate Deborah Erion. "It was so fun to see everyone having such a good time. And it was a great way to wrap up our successful Kids College."

Kids College offered a week of fun and educational activities to engage kids physically and intellectually. Participants conducted science experiments, made music, learned sign language and created a variety of art that was displayed at Party on the Patio.

"Now we're ready to welcome back our students for Fall Semester," said Associate Dean Chaya. Fall semester begins Monday, August 26, 2013. The Lima Campus Center offers a variety of classes from Fundamentals of Cell Biology to Principles of Business, Public Speaking to Popular Cinema.
