Hunter Gibson Receives Convocation Award at Hampden-Sydney College

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA (09/13/2013)(readMedia)-- At Opening Convocation on Tuesday, September 10, Hunter Willem Gibson, a junior at Hampden-Sydney College, received the Second Honor Samuel S. Jones Phi Beta Kappa Award with a grade point average of 3.9409. The Samuel S. Jones Phi Beta Kappa Award recognizes juniors for their intellectual achievement and good citizenship.

Hunter, a Patrick Henry Scholar, plays varsity golf and is a member of the President's Men, the Society of '91 leadership program, and the social fraternity Kappa Sigma. A history major, Hunter is a graduate of Norfolk Academy and is the son of John L. Gibson III of Virginia Beach.

A private college for men, Hampden-Sydney is ranked in the top 100 nationally among liberal arts colleges by U.S. News & World Report. The College is known for its liberal arts curriculum, the Honor Code which stresses individual and collective responsibility, and a focus on the education of young men.
