Huyser to Present Junior Soprano Recital at FSU

FROSTBURG, MD (04/04/2012)(readMedia)-- Frostburg State University student Lauren Huyser will present her junior soprano vocal recital, accompanied by pianist Judith Brown, on Saturday, April 21, at 8 p.m. in Pealer Recital Hall of FSU's Performing Arts Center. The recital is free and open to the public.

Huyser will perform three songs from Vincenzo Bellini's "Sei Ariette" ("Six Ariettas"). "Malinconia, Ninfa Gentile" ("Melancholy, Gentle Nymph") is the first of the six and it expresses a dramatic and over-emphasized devotion to the nymph, "Melancholy." The third in the set, "Bella Nice Che D'Amore" ("Beautiful Nice, That I Love"), is a poem about a lover who longs for death. The last arietta, "Ma Rendi pur Contento" ("But While You Make Me Happy") expresses the innocence of a lover who only cares for the happiness of his lady. Her program also includes works by Francesco Durante, Claudio Monteverdi, Alessandro Parisotti, Reynaldo Hahn, Franz Shubert, Aaron Copland and Richard Hageman. Huyser will close out her performance by singing the beautiful, solemn piece, "The K'e." This piece uses an English translation of the ancient Chinese text, which tells of a woman who falls in love with a man and promises to run away with him. But she soon realizes that he does not treat her with the kindness and love she had expected.

A major in FSU's Department of Music, Huyser studies voice with Dr. William Koehler. She is a member of University Chorale and Delta Omicron International Professional Music Fraternity. A 2008 graduate of Covenant Life High School, Huyser expects to graduate from FSU in December 2012 with a bachelor's degree in vocal performance. She is the daughter of Peter and Glenda Huyser of Adamstown, Md. Huyser plans to continue her study in vocal performance and eventually perform with an opera company as a professional singer, while also working for her family's business.
