I-476 North Closed This Weekend between Wyoming Valley, Clarks Summit

All traffic to be detoured for roadwork in Clarks Summit, Lackawanna County

KING OF PRUSSIA, PA (04/30/2010)(readMedia)-- The Pennsylvania Turnpike cautions northbound motorists on I-476 that a 16-mile stretch of the Northeastern Extension will be shut down with a detour on two separate occasions this weekend between Wyoming Valley (Exit #115) and Clarks Summit (Exit #131).

The first (24 hour) closure is Saturday, May 1 at noon until Sunday, May 2 at noon. The second (9 hour) closure is Sunday, May 2 at 10 p.m. until Monday, May 3 at 7 a.m.

ALL northbound traffic will be diverted off at the Wyoming Valley (Exit #115) Interchange.

The closures will allow a contractor to install concrete median barrier and perform milling and paving operations northbound between mileposts A129-A130, and roadway repairs on the mainline bridge carrying the Turnpike over Edella Road.

At the Clarks Summit Interchange, the ramp connecting southbound Route 6 & 11 to the Turnpike and Interstate 81 will be closed Saturday, May 1 at 6 p.m. until Sunday, May 2 at 6 p.m.

The detour using Rt. 315 to I-81 is approximately 21 miles. Customers can obtain an alternate-route card at the Wyoming Valley Toll Plaza (milepost A112).

Pennsylvania State Police and Turnpike personnel will help direct motorists requiring assistance. The Turnpike Highway Advisory Radio has been activated and motorists choosing to use E-ZPass Only lanes can tune to 1640 AM to obtain detour information.

Additionally, motorists entering I-476 southbound at Clarks Summit should be prepared for a single-lane pattern closing the left lane between milepost A130-A125.

This work is weather sensitive and could be rescheduled for May 8-10. All motorists are urged to use caution and remain alert for slow-moving or stopped traffic and to travel at posted speed limits through highway work zones.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike is committed to distributing complete, accurate and consistent travel information and exceptional customer service. Motorists are encouraged to plan their travel accordingly. Be in the know before you go and call 866.976.TRIP (8747).
