ICYMI: NYers Urge Gov. Hochul: Don't Cave To MAGA Stefanik! Protect Consumers and Repeal the 100-Foot Rule Now
Governor can save New Yorkers $600 million each year by signing the 100-foot rule repeal or side with Elise Stefanik's fossil fuel supporters to protect the expensive status quo
ALBANY, NY (12/17/2025) (readMedia)-- Yesterday, MAGA Rep. Elise Stefanik led a letter signed by fellow Republicans opposing the pro-consumer legislation to repeal the notorious "100-foot rule" and urging Governor Hochul to keep the expensive status quo in place by vetoing a bill on her desk that would repeal the rule.
In response to the letter, John Raskin, President of Spring Street Climate Fund, issued the following statement:
"It's no surprise that MAGA Elise Stefanik is more interested in helping corporate utilities and her fossil fuel donors than delivering savings for New York families that struggle to afford their energy bills. Repealing the 100-foot rule is exactly the kind of consumer-focused change that we need, and signing it would be a decisive victory for utility customers who are forced to pay nearly $600 million on their energy bills every year to expand the gas system and create more profits for corporate polluters. Governor Hochul should side with consumers who are being overcharged, not with MAGA politicians who are trying to keep the status quo in place."
