ISO-NE and NYISO Announce Joint Energy Symposium this May in Boston-Navigating Change

HOLYOKE, MASS., AND RENSSELAER, N.Y. (03/13/2013)(readMedia)-- ISO New England (ISO-NE) and the New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) today announced plans to jointly host an energy symposium on Friday, May 10, 2013. The day-long symposium, "Navigating Change" will be held at The Westin Waterfront in Boston and will address some of the major drivers of change in today's electric industry.

The symposium will bring together industry participants, government officials and other policymakers for a two-part discussion on identifying current industry changes and what steps that both industry and policymakers could take to successfully navigate through this period of rapid development and transformation.

The first panel, Drivers of Change, will identify and explore the industry developments, technologies, policies and opportunities that will affect the future power grid, including policy, environmental and economic perspectives.

A second panel, Navigating through Change, will discuss questions of how new technologies can help manage changes in the electric industry, how states are reacting to drivers of change, the role of utilities in industry transformation, the role of natural gas and renewable energy technologies and how consumers can ultimately benefit.

Technology vendors also will be on hand to exhibit a variety of new products and services aimed at addressing current and future challenges.

"Today's electricity industry is undergoing rapid transformation," said Gordon van Welie, president and CEO of ISO New England Inc. "We're pleased to be working with the New York ISO to advance the dialogue in the northeast on how the industry can adapt and grow through such a period of development."

"As the pace of change in the electricity industry continues to accelerate, effective cooperation and coordination with ISO New England and our other neighboring regions is essential," said Stephen G. Whitley, NYISO president and CEO. "Working with ISO New England, we look forward to building on the success of our last joint symposium and providing another excellent forum to discuss strategies for effectively managing the changes taking place in our markets."

The general registration rate for the symposium is $350, with a government rate of $150. To register for the event, please visit: http://isoenergyconference.com/index.php. For more information, interested parties may e-mail info@isoenergyconference.com or call (617) 337-9534.
