Indianola Baker Gains State Fair Pastry Prominence

DES MOINES, IA (08/13/2019) (readMedia)-- Amy Fuson of Indianola won first place and a $50 cash award in the Prize Winning Pasteries competition, judged Saturday, August 10, at the 2019 Iowa State Fair.

Alissa Puffett of West Des Moines earned second place and Susie Jones of Waukee claimed third place.

Alexander Buelt of Polk City won first place in the Kid's Favorite class.

Entrants were tasked to create an award worthy cinnamon roll, danish or tart that did not use ready-to-use dough.

Entries were judged on taste and appearance.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There are 166 divisions, 715 classes and over 7,300 entries at this year's Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Blue Bunny Ice Cream.
