ELMIRA, NY (08/20/2018) This weeks #SoaringToSuccess features Allie LoPresti '19. Allie, a psychology and criminal justice double major, had the opportunity to intern with The Children's Home of the Wyoming Conference. Let's hear more about her experience:

The Children's Home of the Wyoming Conference is a multi-service child welfare agency committed to safety, permanency, and well-being of children and their families. We partner with children and their families to develop skills to cultivate healthy habits and relationships for a positive future. Staff members work tirelessly to make sure the client's daily needs are met. The Program provides daily support and activities including physical exercise, creative outlets, and counseling supervised by highly trained staff who foster a supportive and positive environment to enhance these skills.

Through my internship I was able to understand the type of scheduling and structure that goes into planning and executing a program that focuses on very specific goals for each client that are assessed frequently. As well as the exceptional teamwork that aides in obtaining these goals. Program staff works with Social Services, educators, and counselors to increase and optimize each client's chance of success. This internship strengthened my related skills and solidified my desire to pursue higher education in hopes to become a child advocate through law, education, and welfare agencies. I encourage other students to gain as much experience in their field as possible because experience has been my favorite teacher!
