JCRC-NY CEO & Queens BP Lead Hamantaschen Crawl to Spotlight Jewish Businesses in Honor of Purim

Mark Treyger and Queens BP Donovan Richards will taste-test Purim desserts at three Kosher businesses and drive support for local Jewish eateries

QUEENS, NY (03/11/2025) (readMedia)-- Today, JCRC-NY CEO Mark Treyger will lead a hamantaschen crawl through Central Queens in honor of the Jewish holiday, Purim. During Purim, families eat hamantaschen – triangular, flavor-filled cookies – to symbolize Jewish survival and resilience against religious persecution in Ancient Persia. To celebrate, Queens Borough President Donovan Richards Jr. will join Treyger on the crawl for a taste-test and reflect on the meaning of the holiday in a follow-up to JCRC-NY's Chanukah-themed food crawl, using kosher food as a tool to build bridges between New York's diverse communities.

Mark Treyger and BP Richards will be available for interviews during the crawl, which will be open to press at each stop.

As an avid baker, former City Council Member, and the son of Ukrainian immigrants, Mark is keen on spreading "Babka diplomacy," his vision for sharing Jewish cuisine and uniting New Yorkers across differences. With antisemitism on the rise, the Purim crawl is part of a larger goal to share Jewish customs with other New Yorkers, and foster a more interconnected community with appreciation for Jewish heritage and faith - one food tour at a time.
