JCRC-NY Condemns Terrifying Antisemitic Attack in Colorado
NEW YORK, NY (06/02/2025) (readMedia)-- Statement from JCRC-NY CEO Mark Treyger:
We are heartbroken and outraged by yesterday's horrific antisemitic attack on a group of people, including Jewish community members, in Boulder, Colorado, who were attending a weekly event advocating for the release of Israeli hostages still held by Hamas in Gaza. That basic call for humanity was met with deranged violence that will do nothing to benefit the cause the attacker claimed to support.
Let's be very clear: this is antisemitic terrorism and the predictable and preventable result of months of inflammatory rhetoric. We urge organizations and leaders who have defended ongoing, irresponsible rhetoric to reflect on their role in creating a permission structure for violence - and we call on them to do more to bring people together than merely offer their thoughts and prayers.
This latest attack comes less than two weeks after a man viciously murdered Sarah Milgrim and Yaron Lischinsky solely because of their Jewish identity outside of the Capital Jewish Museum in D.C., and less than two months after another man set fire to Governor Shapiro's home on Passover. JCRC-NY is committed to combating this unprecedented rise in antisemitism and ensuring our communities are protected. Our thoughts are with the Jewish community in Boulder and all of those impacted by yesterday's horrific attack.
And our heartfelt thanks goes to law enforcement that immediately responded in Colorado, as well as NYPD here at home that continues to step up to protect all New Yorkers. We also want to thank our important partners from CSI that work around the clock on behalf of the safety of our communities.
