HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA (09/06/2012)(readMedia)-- At Opening Convocation on Tuesday, September 4, James Bradford Hughes, a junior at Hampden-Sydney College, received the Second Honor Samuel S. Jones Phi Beta Kappa Award for a grade point average of 3.9298. The Samuel S. Jones Phi Beta Kappa Award recognizes juniors for their intellectual achievement and good citizenship.
A Madison Scholar, James serves as Treasurer of both the InterVarsity Christian Fellowship and the Pre-Health Society. He is a member of the national scientific honor society Chi Beta Phi and received the Sophomore Academic Excellence Award at Final Convocation in Spring 2012. A biology major, James is a graduate of Saint Andrew's School and is the son of Drs. Brian & Amy Hughes of Savannah.
