Jamie Palermo wins Helen Stephens Award at William Woods University

FULTON, MO (07/26/2013)(readMedia)-- Jamie Palermo of Santa Fe, N.M., is the 2013 recipient of the Helen Stephens Award at William Woods University.
The Helen Stephens Award is presented annually to an outstanding junior student-athlete who has achieved excellence both in the classroom and in the area of intercollegiate athletics. This award is presented to a student who demonstrates the talent, discipline and desire that best describes the legacy of William Woods alumna and Olympic champion, Helen Stephens.
The Helen Stephens Award is selected by the athletic department and is regarded as the department's highest honor.
Palermo is a stand-out athlete in both golf and soccer. Her soccer achievements include first team Academic All-American Midwest Conference, Academic All-American Midwest Conference and CoSIDA Academic All-District.
Her golf honors include All-American Midwest Conference, member of the NAIA National Championship All-Tournament Team, NAIA All-American (First Team), third place NAIA National Championship Qualifier, Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team At-Large and Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-American Third Team At-Large.
Palermo also set the WWU record for a low 72-hole score with a 295 (73-74-75-73; +3). At the time it was tied for best overall score by either gender, and is still the best four-round "to-par" score for either program.
Along with her numerous athletic achievements, Palermo is actively involved on campus. She is a member of Collegiate DECA, SWAT (Student Website Advancement Team), a peer mentor and a former Freshman Advantage mentor. Palermo is also a founding member of the National Society of Leadership and Success and is a member of President's Twenty.
Palermo is double majoring in management information systems and business administration with a concentration in economics and finance. She has played on the soccer team for two years and on the golf team for three years.
