Janet Reynolds Named Iowan of the Day

DES MOINES, IA (07/30/2012)(readMedia)-- The Iowa State Fair Blue Ribbon Foundation and Cookies Food Products are pleased to present Janet Reynolds of Sioux City as an Iowan of the Day for the 2012 Iowa State Fair.

As President of the Midtown Board, Reynolds is host to many programs in the Sioux City area. She has been involved in volunteer work including working closely with the youth in 4-H afterschool programs, Midtown Community Center, and 4-H summer camps. In addition, Reynolds volunteers at the Jones Street Community Garden where she teaches youth how to plant and care for vegetables. Annually, she coordinates a memorial event at the Community Splash Pad to teach bike safety in honor of a neighborhood child who passed away from a bike accident. Reynolds shows compassion and dedication to spread optimism in her community.

"Janet puts in so much time to help families and youth in the community. If anyone needs anything she's always there and doesn't ask for anything in return," says Tori Connot, Reynolds nominator. Reynolds generosity and leadership makes her a well-deserving Iowan of the Day.

Reynolds' day of recognition will be Sunday, August 12 at the 2012 Iowa State Fair. Along with a one night's stay at the Downtown Des Moines Marriott, she will receive a cash prize, grandstand tickets and use of the Iowan of the Day golf cart. Reynolds will also receive a special introduction at 2:30 p.m. August 12 on the Anne and Bill Riley Stage.

Founded in 1997, the Iowan of the Day program allows the Blue Ribbon Foundation to recognize Iowa's shining stars. The program continues to honor individuals from across the state each year who have made a difference in others' lives while upholding characteristics associated with Iowa-dependability, integrity, hard work and sense of community.

The Blue Ribbon Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization. Since its inception in 1993, the Foundation has generated over $85 million for renovations and improvements to the Iowa State Fairgrounds.
