Jewish Community Relations Council of New York Honors MLK Day, Uplifts His Vision of Loving Democracy
NEW YORK, NY (01/20/2025) (readMedia)-- On this Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the Jewish Community Relations Council of New York (JCRC-NY) joins the nation in honoring his life, legacy, and vision for a compassionate American democracy.
Statement from JCRC-NY CEO Mark Treyger:
"There are certain American leaders that breathe life into the preamble of our Constitution, that remind us of our collective responsibility to work towards a more perfect union. Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was one such leader. Through his tireless efforts to enshrine civil rights for African Americans and confront the moral stain of Jim Crow, Dr. King first articulated his vision for a "beloved community" -- an America governed by love and justice -- nearly 70 years ago. Today, as we reflect on his enduring legacy, we are reminded that while this community remains within reach, our work to achieve it cannot cease. JCRC-NY's mission to build a more interconnected New York calls us to heed Dr. King's message. We are steadfast in our commitment to fostering partnerships within and beyond the Jewish community to create a state where dignity, respect, and equality are afforded to all, regardless of faith, belief, or origin. As we commemorate Dr. King's life and work, let us renew our resolve to build a more just and inclusive nation and world. May his words inspire us to continue the fight for peace and equality for all."
