Jewish Community Relations Council of New York Responds to Alarming 2025 NYPD Hate Crime Stats Targeting Jews

NEW YORK, NY (01/07/2026) (readMedia)-- On Tuesday, the NYPD released its crime statistics for 2025, exposing a deeply troubling amount of antisemitic violence across New York. More than half (57%) of all reported hate crimes last year targeted Jews. A total of 330 New Yorkers were attacked because of their Jewish identity, significantly more than the number of hate crimes committed against all other groups combined.

Statement from Mark Treyger, CEO of JCRC-NY:

"The NYPD's latest sobering data reinforce JCRC-NY's persistent calls for leaders at every level of government to develop comprehensive, enforceable plans to combat antisemitic hate and ensure the safety of our Jewish communities. While we greatly appreciate the critical role NYPD plays to keep New Yorkers safe, law enforcement alone cannot solve hate.

We need real accountability and proactive strategies, including sustained efforts to build bridges across New York's diverse communities and deepen understanding of Jewish identity. Antisemitism endangers not only Jewish New Yorkers, but the very foundation of the inclusive and vibrant city we call home. JCRC-NY stands ready to work with our partners in government to comprehensively combat antisemitism and all forms of hate to create a safer, more inclusive city for all."
