LORETTO, PA (03/21/2011)(readMedia)-- John Kelly, a senior psychology major at Saint Francis University, was recently awarded a research grant by the university's School of Arts & Letters. Kelly, a Grassflat native, will use his grant money to conduct research into gender differences in the weight room.
Kelly, who developed his research study as part of a semester-long internship with Saint Francis' strength and conditioning coach, Jessie Webber, plans to survey female Division I athletes about their opinions on body expectations of women. He will investigate whether gender differences are the reason men outperform women in sports that involve strength conditioning. Kelly will also examine whether the media influences Division I female athletes to believe they need to have a certain body type.
The Saint Francis University School of Arts & Letters supports student research, service, and/or academic projects through various grants and other funding opportunities.
