CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (01/17/2012)(readMedia)-- John Unterreiner of Cape Girardeau, Mo., is among a select group of elite Southeast Missouri State University undergraduates chosen to participate in a five-day seminar in Washington, D.C., during spring break March 11-16, learning about global issues in business, the environment and politics at the prestigious Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS).

Students selected for the opportunity were required to demonstrate leadership involvement on and off campus, academic excellence or both.

Participants for the trip were nominated by faculty members and selected by University administrators, including Southeast President Kenneth W. Dobbins, Southeast Provost Ronald Rosati, deans and regional campus directors.

Unterreiner is studying for a major in criminal justice with a minor in psychology. He is a junior at Southeast and would like to pursue a career as a federal probation officer.

Unterreiner is the son of Steve and Debra Unterreiner of Cape Girardeau. He was a 2009 graduate of Notre Dame Regional High School in Cape Girardeau.
