HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA (03/29/2011)(readMedia)-- On March 3, 2011, Johnathan Alden Sharp, a junior at Hampden-Sydney College, was elected President of the Student Government for the 2011-2012 academic year.
John is Chairman of the College Activities Committee this year and has served on this committee since his freshman year. He is a member the Garnet & Grey (student tour guide) and the social fraternity Sigma Nu. A history and fine arts major, John is a graduate of Stafford Senior High School and is the son of Al & Ellen Sharp of Fredericksburg.
As President, Johnathan is responsible for promoting the general welfare of the student body, representing student interests to the administration and Board of Trustees, and directing the operation of the Student Government. Student government, first introduced at the College in 1886, is an historic and respected institution.
A private college for men, Hampden-Sydney is ranked in the top tier of liberal arts colleges by U.S. News & World Report. The College is known for its liberal arts curriculum, the Honor Code which stresses individual and collective responsibility, and a focus on the needs of young men.
