MILLERSVILLE, PA (05/07/2013)(readMedia)-- Jose F. Urena, of Lititz, Pa., has been selected to receive The Bernice R. Rydell Scholarship for Excellence. Urena will graduate from Warwick High School and attend Millersville University of Pennsylvania this fall to study chemistry.
The Bernice R. Rydell Scholarship for Excellence recipients is awarded $3,623. The donor requires that the recipient selected to receive the award be a student of color who earned a class rank placing them in the top 10 percent of their high school class and who has a record of involvement in his or her community.
Urena will be a first generation college student, having to learn English as a second language when he started elementary school. He was a member of the National Honor Society, the Junior Engineering Technical Society and played varsity soccer throughout high school. Most of his free-time is devoted to improving his soccer skills, competing in regional and state-wide soccer tournaments and working part-time.
