CAZENOVIA, NY (03/29/2012)(readMedia)-- The Cazenovia College Art Gallery in Reisman Hall is hosting the annual Bachelor of Fine Arts Exhibitions now through May 1. The exhibition includes work by visual communications, studio art, photography and interior design degree candidates from Cazenovia College's Division of Art and Design.
Judith Anderson of Henderson, N.Y., the daughter of Eric and Jennifer Anderson, is a senior majoring in studio art, with a minor in art history. Her show, "Women's Work," runs from Monday, April 16 to Friday, April 20, with a reception on April 16 from 4 to 5:30 p.m.
Anderson says she has always felt most naturally drawn to creative work. At Cazenovia College she has developed many new skills and is most excited about recently learning to weave. She also enjoys printmaking and experimenting with printing on her weavings. She has been involved in many campus activities, and is a member of the College's Judicial Board; Alpha Lambda Delta, the national first year honor society; and the Alpha Chi National Honor Society. More of her work can be seen at www. judithanderson.weebly.com.
In her artist's statement she writes, "Much of my work explores ideas of using formerly domestic tasks and materials to pay homage to past traditions while creating something more contemporary. I tend to work back and forth between the craft and fine art realm, using techniques such as sewing and knitting in combination with paint, photography and other media. My connection to what once was deemed 'women's work,' and its more feminine materials is undeniable, and one which questions gender roles in society."
The Cazenovia College Art Gallery in Reisman Hall, 6 Sullivan St., is on the corner of Sullivan and Seminary streets in Cazenovia. Hours during the academic year are: Monday through Thursday, 1-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.; Friday, 1-4 p.m.; and Saturday and Sunday, 2-6 p.m. Summer hours vary.
