Julia Kropf of Fleetwood Honored at Scranton Commencement

SCRANTON, PA (06/20/2011)(readMedia)-- Julia Carolyn Kropf, Fleetwood, was among the 68 students honored by The University of Scranton during its undergraduate Class Night ceremony. The Jesuit university awarded outstanding members of the Class of 2011 for academic achievement and service.

Kropf was the recipient of the Excellence in Management Award. She received a bachelors of science, summa cum laude, in management and Hispanic studies.

A dean's list student, Kropf participated in the Business Leadership Honors Program. She was a member of Beta Gamma Sigma, Alpha Sigma Nu, Alpha Mu Gamma, Alpha Lambda Delta, and Omega Beta Sigma honor societies. She was also named to "Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges." She was a four-year member of the varsity volleyball team, where she was nominated as an Academic All-American, and a member of the Scranton Performance Choir.

She was involved in the Student Athlete Advisory Committee, participated in the University's Thanksgiving Food Drive and helped raise funds for charities. Kropf volunteered at the United Neighborhood Community Development Corporation to promote the revitalization of South Scranton. She served as a volunteer at the Kania School of Management Women's Business Center.

After graduation, Kropf will spend a year in Quito, Ecuador, at the Working Boys' Center as a volunteer teaching English and other skills to people of all ages.

She graduated from Fleetwood High School, Fleetwood.
