MANCHESTER, NH (12/20/2012)(readMedia)-- Saint Anselm College junior Justin Eckilson, of Stoneham, Mass., led a volunteer service trip to Manahawkin, N.J., November 16 – 18, to assist in the clean up of areas devastated by Hurricane Sandy.
The history major and his group of 17 students worked with Jersey Cares, a nonprofit volunteer organization. Students provided physical and emotional support to the families in New Jersey, delivering donations and accompanying the families as they were finally allowed to enter their homes, which were scheduled to be razed.
The trip was organized through Campus Ministry's Service & Solidarity Mission Program, which manages student service trips during winter, spring, and summer breaks. They give students the opportunity to experience the value of volunteer work, as the students take part in programs around the world that assist those in need. Eckilson will also lead a trip to Camden, N.J. during the college's spring break in March.
Saint Anselm College is a Catholic Benedictine liberal arts college in Manchester, N.H.
