LAWRENCE, KS (03/30/2012)(readMedia)-- University of Kansas organ students Yoomi Chang and Sheung Chi Chan captured the first and second prizes, respectively, in the national organ playing competition sponsored by the First Presbyterian Church of Fort Wayne, Ind.
Chang studies with Professor James Higdon and is working toward a DMA in organ. She is originally from Korea and received an MM in organ from Indiana University. As the first-place winner, Chang will be featured in a public concert at First Presbyterian Church, Fort Wayne, on Sunday, April 29.
Chan studies with Professor Michael Bauer and is pursuing a DMA in organ. He is from Hong Kong and received his MM in organ from Texas Christian University.
After the American Guild of Organists National Competition, the Fort Wayne competition is one of the oldest and most prestigious competitions in the country, having started in 1960. It has attracted entrants from every state as well as other countries.
