ST. MARY'S CITY, MD (01/06/2014)(readMedia)-- Katelyn Mattingly, a Leonardtown, Md., native and sophomore at St. Mary's College of Maryland, was recently awarded the Gough-Broun Scholarship. Established in 2001 by Joseph Marion Gough, Jr., the scholarship benefits graduates of St. Mary's Ryken High School who have academic merit.
At St. Mary's College of Maryland, Mattingly is studying English, biology and psychology. She is also working on a novel and plans to become a certified veterinarian technician in the spring. She hopes to attend veterinarian school.
Outside of the classroom, Mattingly volunteers for the St. Mary's Animal Welfare League and for Greyt Expectations Greyhound Rescue. She enjoys playing piano, writing, health foods and baking.
St. Mary's College of Maryland, designated the Maryland state honors college in 1992, is ranked one of the best public liberal arts schools in the nation by U.S. News & World Report. More than 2,000 students attend the college, nestled on the St. Mary's River in Southern Maryland.
