Katlyn Keane of Bethel named a Politi International Fellow at Saint Michael's College
COLCHESTER, VT (04/04/2011)(readMedia)-- Saint Michael's College student Katlyn Keane will be venturing far from home next year as she carries out a year-long study-abroad project in Ecuador and in Chile for the Fall 2011 and Spring 2012 semesters. Ms. Keane, the daughter of Marie Corbin-Keane and Steven P. Keane of Bethel, Maine, was awarded a $5,000 Politi International Fellowship to support her studies.
Ms. Keane, a sophomore Spanish major, graduated from Telestar Regional High School before coming to Saint Michael's, a liberal arts Catholic college, located in Burlington, Vermont, one of America's top 10 college towns. Ms. Keane will study at the University of Chile in Santiago during the Spring of 2012. In her winning application for the Politi Fellowship, she indicated a commitment to becoming fluent in Spanish and to developing a deep understanding of Latin American people and culture.
In announcing the award, Dr. Karen Talentino, SMC vice president for academic affairs, said to Ms. Keane, "I was extremely impressed with your application, and I know that your experience will enrich the Saint Michael's community when you return to campus.
