Katrina Lockwood from Culpeper, VA Wins Cornell University Steamboat Scholarship
ITHACA, NY (05/17/2011)(readMedia)-- Katrina Lockwood from Culpeper, VA, a senior at the Cornell University School of Hotel Administration, has been named the 2011 Steamboat Scholar from the School of Hotel Administration .This summer she will participate in the Steamboat Foundation's prestigious leadership development program and will work in close association with senior mentor, Randy Garutti at Union Square Hospitality Group (USHG), a Steamboat Foundation grant partner. Garutti is the managing partner of Shake Shack and in his eleventh year at USHG. She will gain valuable experience working with Garutti on every aspect of developing the Shake Shack brand including development templates for HR, PR, marketing and community investments.
This unique ten-week program brings together a select group of undergraduate scholars from universities across the country and gives them the opportunity to explore an industry they are passionate about and gain valuable experience in that industry.
Lockwood's enthusiasm for the hospitality industry came about at a young age from her continued exposure to "southern hospitality" and after her first job working in a family-owned pizza parlor. Since then she has expanded her interests into the Country Club industry and gained valuable experience through her participation in Cornell's chapter of Club Manager's Association of America and at the Westchester Country Club's Beach Club where she helped manage the food service operations.
