FULTON, MO (10/28/2010)(readMedia)-- Kayla Ahrens, a senior at William Woods University, has been awarded the Missouri Colleges Fund scholarship for $850. The money comes from Enterprise Holdings and is intended for students majoring in business.

The Enterprise scholarship also provides an opportunity for the student to interview for a paid internship or full-time employment. Ahrens was nominated for the scholarship by Lee Bailey, assistant professor of accounting.

Missouri Colleges Funds is an organization that assists private colleges and universities in the State of Missouri by working with private donors to secure scholarship opportunities.

Ahrens, from Martinsburg, Mo., is completing a bachelor of science degree with a double major in accounting and business administration with a finance and management concentration. She is the daughter of Kevin and Bonnie Ahrens.

She enjoys scrapbooking, water skiing and spending time with her family and friends. She participates in church and community activities, such as Relay-for-Life and Chi Omega fundraisers to raise money for the Make-a-Wish Foundation. She works at Audrain Medical Center in Mexico, Mo., as a unit clerk and also serves as a work-study assistant for the business division of William Woods.

Ahrens has completed one internship at MFA Incorporated in Columbia, Mo., and is completing an additional internship with MFA this semester.

After graduation, she plans to take the CPA exam and work as an accountant in the corporate sector. She plans to gain experience in the work force and pursue a master's degree in accounting. She would also like to sit for the CFP (Certified Financial Planner) exam to combine her love for finance and accounting. She hopes to eventually work her way up in a company to be a financial analyst or chief financial officer.
