Ashland University Student Interns at MGM Grand
Tallmadge resident Kelly Cadman, who is a hospitality major at Ashland University, interned this summer at MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nev.
Cadman, who is a 2009 graduate of Tallmadge High School, is the daughter of William and Sandra Cadman.
Cadman spent her summer as an intern in hotel and convention sales with MGM Resorts International. Due to working in hotel and convention sales, Cadman handled a lot of interactions with clients who had not booked their meetings or conventions yet.
She said she did on-site inspection tours of the property with her adviser, wrote up proposals and contracts, and attended weekly sales meetings. Cadman spent a great deal of time out of the office working with clients directly with her adviser.
Cadman chose interning with MGM over other internships because of the experience she knew she would gain from working for such a well-known leader in the hospitality industry. "There was just no way that I could pass up an opportunity like working for MGM Grand - it's the second largest hotel in the whole world!" Cadman said.
According to Cadman, the most memorable part of the whole experience was every Thursday.
"In the internship program at MGM Resorts International, every Thursday is Intern Day. We got to visit each one of the 12 properties on the Las Vegas Strip that are owned by MGM Resorts International and hear presentations from the executives and VPs, take behind the scenes tours, and we even got to go into the surveillance room at the Bellagio. You really can't beat getting paid to do stuff like that," she said.
"The internship I did was a great opportunity and I'm so happy that I had the chance to participate. I got meet some great people and make contacts with executives and VPs in some of the biggest names in the hospitality industry. I couldn't have come up with a better internship if I imagined it myself," Cadman said.
At Ashland University, Cadman is a member of the Gamma Sigma Alpha Honorary, Student Senate, St. Jude Executive Board, Panhellenic Counsel, Rho Lambda Honorary, Order of Omega Honorary, AU Ambassador, and Delta Zeta Sorority. She also is a student conduct intern at Ashland University.
