HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA (04/12/2011)(readMedia)-- Hampden-Sydney College senior Kenneth Ray Simon, Jr. (center) recently received the Military Leadership/National Security Studies Program Certificate from Lt. Col. Rucker Snead, Assistant Director of the ML/NSS Program (left) and Dr. Christopher B. Howard, President of Hampden-Sydney College (right). Hampden-Sydney's Wilson Center for Leadership in the Public Interest initiated the program in the Spring of 2005 for students interested in the historical, political, cultural, ethical, and legal dimensions of national security policy as well as the place and role of the military in American society.
Ken serves as President of Student Government after serving three years on the Student Senate. He is Opinion Editor for the student newspaper, The Hampden-Sydney Tiger, and serves as Vice President of the Pre-Law Society, as Treasurer of the Union-Philanthropic Society, and as an Admissions Office tour guide (Garnet & Grey Society). Ken is a member of the honor societies Omicron Delta Kappa (leadership), Pi Sigma Alpha (political science), and the Society for Collegiate Journalists. He is also a member of the Madisonian Society, the International Club, the President's Men, and the Society of 1791 (leadership program). Ken was recognized for leadership in the 2011 edition of Who's Who among Students in American Universities and Colleges. He is completing his term as a Student Fellow with the Center for the Study of the Presidency and will be attending law school in the fall. A government major, Ken graduated from Carnegie Vanguard High School and is the son of Ms. Sherilyn E. Simon of Houston.
